Vale, Loleatta …

And so we sadly learn of the passing of Loleatta Holloway – a true diva of the disco, her booming voice filling many a dance floor over the decades.

Loleatta was born in Chicago, and got her start singing in various gospel groups. She released her first, self-titled album in 1973. It was in the late 70s that she signed to Salsoul label subsidiary, Gold Mind, and released her first disco offerings.

She is probably best known for her mega-hit ‘Love Sensation’. Other hit songs included ‘Only You’, ‘Hit And Run’ (a classic) and ‘Catch Me On The Rebound’. Her earlier soul offerings are often overlooked, such as the southern soul gem, ‘Cry For Me’.

Anyway, here we are all about celebrating her life and legacy, so in true disco style:
